I have always wanted to shoot a girl with red hair and Brittany filled that goal nicely. Not only did she have beautiful red hair, but brilliant blue eyes and really genuine person to be around. We had a beautiful day to shoot these images over aprox 2-3hours. We shot around the Maple Ridge area and the warm light echoed with the bohemian style that we were going for.

Delays

Its been a while since I have added any posts, but it isn't from lack of work; just the opposite. I have been so busy with weddings and commercial photography, that I haven't had the time...and I apologize somewhat.
October was supposed to be my month for my large website changes and additions, but that has to be delayed because of my workload. Th focus has to be there for the major alterations. The site will undergo a major change due to new open source design. It still is in the final testing stages, but will provide much more flexibility for us. This has delayed all of my new galleries. Hope to have everything ready my years end.

Hands Across the Border

I was glad I attended the annual Hands Across the Border at the Peace Arch Park on June 13th 2010. our son was involved with the hundreds of Canadian & American Scouts, Cadets, Cubs, Police, and Military personnel. It was beautiful to see the cooperation and enduring friendship between our two nations. The weather was a bit shaky toward the morning, but sun shone through toward the climax which was the march through the arch. Their were smiles on all the faces- from young to our (and theirs) amazing veterans.

Oksana

It was early April and we had been talking about planning a glamour shoot which we would explore the mid 40's to early 50's feel. It wasn't until mid May that we had the chance to organize the shoot. We decided to shoot Oksana with a simpler make-up at the start (Blue dress images), then progress into the deeper and heavier glamour make-up and set. I think on the next set with this style, we will use mostly continuous lights and less studio strobes, just so we can manipulate the lights as they did in the day. Otherwise we consider this a work in progress.

We plan a number of these period shoots over the coming months. Oksana, thanks for your patience, you were very professional. Christa, our make-up artist was fantastic and knew exactly what we were going for. I hope to work her again and again.

Hiba & Dustin -A few engagement images

Beautiful...just one of the many words to describe this amazing young couple. Hiba and Dustin's Engagement Shoot was fun, energetic and whimsical as we started in New Westminster, through Fort Langley and ended here as the sun set in a field on Rawlison Crescent.

A blast from the past. This authentic and incredibly funky shoe store made for a fabulous back drop to this fun and highly photogenic couple's shoot. They were naturals- making our job easy!

This old abandoned and slightly haunting building in New West must of had incredible architecture detail in it's day. Now, barely a shell and closed off to the public, this once majestic soul stands awaiting demolish. The gate was open and we took quick advantage of it's rough edges and crumbling facade.

Fort Langley- what can we say, it's a favorite of ours for the quirky buildings and quaint atmosphere.

The weather was warm, the lighting was soft and this unforgettable couple was a joy to shoot. Congratulations Hiba and Dustin. We look forward to all the fun and romance of your big day!

Updates, Updates, Updates.

We are in the middle of our next major website update with our largest overhaul coming in the fall. So please be patient while we get it all together. (well I will never have it all together -at least that's what Hollie says) There are only 10 hrs in a day, or at least that's what some of my days feel like. I have had so many projects to work on and not much time to work on the site. I will be adding new images to galleries, pages will simplified so that navigation is much easier, and we will be adding merchandise to the site within the next few months.
If you are still looking for a wedding date to book, we have added new Custom Pricing so that we can cater to clients with budget concerns. We will still maintain the Wedding Portfolio packages as a complete solution.

We also had a fairly wet photo shoot out in Mission recently; I wasn't sure if I wanted to go through with it, but decided to anyway. I'm really glad we did. The dampness added to the beauty of the location. I should have images posted by next week. We are starting to do a number of fashion or model shoots which will continue to go on over the summer months.
Finally, take a look at our Luminus Academy page for our next workshop. Its all about making Organic style images for yourself, your home, your portfolio. These are images that you can make to fit the decor in your home. Make them as art pieces on large canvas wraps, or small/large series prints. Anyway, contact us if you want in. Only 5 max per workshop.

Our home - Torched

It started out with a light misting of rain, but the sun blessed us as the day progressed. Here is small selection of images depicting a number of areas throughout our area of Langley. The Torch-bearers ran down 88th to stop right at our doorstep- what a treat. It then continued on through the Fort Langley area and on to the brand new Langley Events Center. It was all very magical indeed. The excitement brought out the kids in all of us. GO CANADA!

This was one of my favorites with the fist held up between the touching torches.

The atmosphere was electrifying and sun peaking through added to the ambiance.

The Kids Christmas Project

It began as a secret project for my amazing wife and dedicated mother of two caring boys.
We are truly blessed to have our "angel" (as I call her) with us to share in our lives. We wanted to give something back to her (she is always thinking of others and never ever asks for anything in return). I told you "angel" fits her best.

Here are a few images from the book the boys and I made her. They supplied poems, top ten lists, drawings and ideas for images. We had a blast making it as you can see...

Krista & Wes's Wedding

A cool and wet November morning couldn't dampen the
excitement of Krista & Wes's wedding day.
I started at the salon quite early. Between family, bridesmaids and the beautiful bride, the ladies seemed to have taken over the whole salon. It was all a buzz with anticipation.
From there, I went back to Krista's parents while Hollie visited Wes and the boys as they prepared.

The crimson and ivory accents added to the overall elegance of the event. The beautiful bridesmaids and handsome groomsmen only accentuated the gorgeous bride and groom. Wonderful family and friends helped celebrate this special day at Northview Golf Course.

Krista was breathtaking....

Together they were amazing.

Parting with an old Friend

This friend didn't have to speak in words, but said it instead with visual results.
It has been with me for over 9 years, but looks and works as the day it arrived in my hands.
I have now acquired the new version and parting is such sweet sorrow.

Known also as the Magic Drain Pipe; a perfect name if ever there was one.
It's rare on the market to find and is built like a tank. The optics are fantastic and the speed ideal. (on APS-C sensor SLR's Rebel, 30-50D, 7D=130mm -320mm with F2.8 through-out)
It includes: both front and rear caps and hood. Very clean condition and hasn't been used in over two years. It's also kept wrapped to keep dust away.

Scouts Remembering

Fort Langley, BC. Remembrance Day 2009
The skies opened up from days of on-going rain and showers. The morning was beautiful.
You could smell the wet leaves and the air was cool and crisp.
Liam and I headed down the hill to Fort Langley, just about 2K away from our home.
We arrived fairly early because of the expected crowds.
Everyone started at the historic community center in the heart of town.
A number of scouts had already arrived and the atmosphere was very up-beat.
It was fantastic to see the RCMP in full Regalia and the sunshine had given them that extra sparkle. When I was younger and living in Jamaica, my first images that I pictured in my head of Canada, were that of the red jacketed Mounties and Christmas trees everywhere (we had no fir or pine trees and so I called them Christmas trees).
Anyway, I digress. You have to admit, their uniforms are really quite handsome and enduring.

It was great to see so many children attending the ceremonies. The crowds this year was estimated at 2,500-3,000. Over double from the year previous. Was it the rain in past years?
Who knows, but I hope it grows again (rain or shine).

At 10:40am, we headed out along Glover Rd. to the cemetery and to the war memorial cenotaph.
This is where the crowds started to grow in numbers. The walk was short but really quite beautiful. The golden foliage on the mature, stately trees set the stage.

It was amazing to see the diversity not only in age, but ethnicity. There were children, teens, adults and the elderly. Aboriginal elders, veterans, soldiers and families. Today we stood as one.

I arrived behind many of the crowds, so finding a place with a good view to shoot was next to impossible. I decided to take a few more images from behind the stage and absorb the ceremony.
The ceremony was quite amazing from start to end. It all went to plan.
Rev. Pam Worthington gave a homily that really was quite poignant.
A choir of young teens sang a wonderful song that was written by a local mother and son. There was a lone bagpipe and the "Last Call" from a bugle, both played very well and led into the moment of silence so we could reflect on the dead and current soldiers still in harms way. Immediately following, the deep rumbling of five planes broke the silence as they made two pass overs. I could barely see them from my vantage point but the sound was incredible.

Finally, when all was over, everyone placed their wreaths up at the cenotaph and slowly made their way to place their poppy on the cold stone monument. I wish I had time to take images of the dwindling count of WW2 and Korean vets, but did get a shot of one one our boys currently serving in Afghanistan.
I really encourage you to go if you have not. I have now for the past few years and found it quite profound.

Thank You for making this country and world a safer place.

Dawn & Chris's Wedding

The weather turned around just for this day alone. We arrived in Kelowna on a rainy Friday for one of our September weddings. We came early to scout the orchard surrounded Golf Club to get an idea of possible locations on the course and contrasting areas nearby.
The club had really restricted areas to shoot other than the typical designated and usually overshot places. Not bad for a few quick family images, but not really that interesting.
We happened to find a small orchard at the perimeter of the clubs grounds that was... kind of off bounds, but had so much more possibilities photographically. The lighting that morning was a bit gray but this area felt like it had real possibilities.
The Wedding Day:
Here are a few images from our day of shooting. The skies opened up for us with a small bit of cloud cover (perfect). The light seemed to sparkle from the rain the day prior....and I was right, the orchard was magically lit. The backlighting on Dawn & Chris really added depth to the images.

Socialyte shoot

We had a successful shoot for Socialyte Online clothing in Sept. It was a bit quicker than I would have liked, but got quite a few great images from it. The clothing is a bit of an Indian and Bohemian mix. The girls were great and professional and light in Fort Langley was really quite even. This was one of a few shoots planned.

It's just starting to take shape, but welcome to our newest addition. We'll be posting shoots, discuss shooting ideas, cool links, network with our clients and colleagues, and let you know what's new.
We are in the beginning stages of changing a number of things on the website -www.imaging1.ca-
We'll be adding to galleries, changing design elements, introducing this blog and soon will be adding our e-commerce site- introducing products (other that prints) for sale.

Peter will be adding Workshops tailored for small groups that will be adventurous, modern, cutting edge, and memorable. These will not be dry class room type workshops where everyone is on a different page. We want you to have as much hands on practice as possible, learn WYSIWYG, and enjoy the experience.
We will have postings on the blog when they're to be scheduled. Stay Tuned.
